Towards monitoring the invisible threat: a global approach for tackling AMR in water resources and environment

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat, with aquatic environments and wastewater being major breeding grounds for ARGs and ARBs. A hackathon event in September 2023 highlighted the need for globalization in AMR surveillance. This paper proposes a globally adaptable model for AMR surveillance, addressing challenges like lack of standardized methods, funding, coordination, and awareness. The model includes a technical committee, centralized laboratories, and continuous technological development, all in collaboration with national and supranational bodies addressing the issue.
